Mauna Loa has erupted over 33 different times. These flows cover 806 square kilometers of the volcano's surface. It ultimately destroyed a coastal village and some fishponds at Wainanali`i and Kinolo, on the west coast of the Island. The most recent eruption was in March-April timeframe in the year 1984. The eruption ended a 9-year period of quiescence. Although the Volcano caused great destruction to many things, it did not kill anyone. This was one of the only positive things of this last eruption.
